Who do You Think You Are?

In Emerging Technologies we have been asked to find out information about our family and produce two interviews, an email, a family echo family tree, a prezi, and an infographic.  The first step to producing an interview for my parents to take a survey that would allow me to learn more about them and their past. Second, I made an email to send to my sister.  Finally, using the information I gathered from my questions I made a family tree, prezi, and infographic.

Blog Post of the Day:
What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions? Go in to detail about your plans for the 5 day weekend.

For thanksgiving I am going to Illinois and we do this every year because we have half of our family that lives there.  For this five day weekend my cousin has every day planned out.  My uncle owns a lot of land so we will probably go hunting and if they have enough snow we will definitely go snowmobiling.  We will probably have a thanksgiving dinner which will more than likely include turkey and mashed potatoes.

Reflecting on the comments and grade of your stop-motion animation... what you would do differently if you had to do it all over again? Would you manage your time better? Find better lighting for your photos? Come up with a better idea? Explain what you would change about your video.

If I did my project differently I would definitely use a tripod, because that what I got counted of most for and it would have made the movie look so much better and more finished.  I managed my time very well and finished all of it in class and it turned out very well.  The lighting on my pictures was perfect because I was right by a lot of natural lighting in the avenue of arts. I liked my idea and I thought it turned out just how I wanted it.  The main changes I would do are the tripod and different music.

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about your weekend.

This Friday I went to the Blue Valley game and we lost but we had a pretty good season. This weekend I went to the KU game and it was freezing and they stayed with a very good team. Sunday I did nothing and just watched NFL football.

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about your experience with taking your stop-motion photos. What problems did you run in to? What did you find difficult about the process? What would you go back and change about HOW you took the photos? Explain yourself.

My overall experience with stop motion was good. One of the biggest problems that I ran into was I didn't have a tripod because someone didn't return it and also coming up with an idea. If I could go back I would have taken more pictures and would have had a tripod.

What is stop motion animation? If you don't know, look it up! Explain.

Stop motion is when you take a lot of pictures and you play them fast and it makes a story that looks like it was filmed. An example of stop motion movies are Gumby. I used to watch Gumby when i was little at my grandma and grandpa's house.

5 Frame Storyboard

Wednesday, November 5th

Blog Post of the Day:
Tell me about your idea for your 5 frame story board. What is the plot? How do you plan to make the story creative? Who's the main character? What is the beginning, middle and end? Tell me about your plan of attack.

The plot for my 5 frame story is a kid throwing a piece of trash he found laying on the ground away. The plot is the step you have to take to throw something away. I used different angles and shot effects. The beginning is the kid walking. The middle is the picking up of the paper.  My plan of attack is to take some pictures of a kid picking up trash.

Blog Post of the Day:
Yesterday you edited and uploaded photos to your blog. Tell me more about your photos. HOW did you edit them? Why did you choose the photos that you did? Explain your assignment.

On most of my photos I sharpened the image and made them brighter to show more color and light. I chose the best photos that I took to edit.  I also chose these because they had the most color and were the most clear. Our assignment was to take artistic pictures and edit them to make them look better and more clear.

Below is a letter written to the editor who wrote the article 'Enforcement of dress code creates negative effect' that your blogged about last week. Most of you wrote on your blog that you agreed with the writer. What are your thoughts after reading the letter below and seeing a different perspective. Are they the same? Are the different? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

My perspective agreed with your argument more than the original writers.  I believe you should wear appropriate clothes to school because it's a professional environment.  I also believe that guys need to be mature and not comment about a girls clothes, they decided to wear it.  As you can see now my viewpoint has not changed and I think some parts of the dress code are good and some of them are downright unneeded.

The perfect curriculum is a mix of education and everyday skills. I believe we should also be street smart and school smart. You would study everyday skills such as events that happen throughout the day, and they would not change much of our schools today.

The following article was in the September issue of The Tiger Print. Read the article (even if you already have) and respond to it below. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Consider all perspectives of the article while you respond.

I believe kids in high school are mature enough to make their own decisions and responsibly dress appropriate at school.  I do believe there should be a limit to how far they can dress I do believe girls should have a required length for shorts but it shouldn't be the thumb rule or else we would see a bunch of long armed girls walking around with jeans for shorts.

This weekend I went to hangout with friends after work on Saturday.  After that we went to my house and spent the night.  On Sunday I watched the Chiefs game and the Royals game, too bad the Chiefs lost. BUT THE ROYALS WON!!!

What is an infographic? If you don't know, go look it up. Read about it and then in your own words tell me what an infographic is. What do infographics do? How do they work? What makes a really good infographic?

An infographic is a interesting way to show your audience about a topic, using pictures, graphs and charts. Infographics work by catching the readers eye and they also use graphs to show statistics. What makes a good infographic is good information and a good format.

Imagine Mr. Bacon has asked you to suggest one way of improving Blue Valley High School to make it a better place for students. Think about the changes that are needed at your school. Pick one change you feel would really make a difference and explain what it is and why you'd make the change.

I think our school should invest in it's appearance. As it is right now it looks old and out of date.  I believe instead of buying new computers ever year we should spend that money making our school look nicer and I also believe we really need new tile out in the hallways, it looks old and like it needs to be replaced.

What are your favorite apps on your phone or tablet? Why?

(If you don't have a smart phone or tablet, what are you favorite website you visit regularly.)

My favorite apps on my phone are twitter, instagram, snapchat, and messaging.  This is because I like to stay in touch with people I know and it's fun to look at what they are doing during their day.

What is email? When do you use email in your own personal life? List reasons and ways that people use email. What do you know about "email etiquette"?

Email is electronic mail.  I do not use email ever in my life except for school and twitter notifications. People use email because it is like texting for old people and I don't know what email etiquette is.

Now that you've been in Emerging Technology for several weeks... what do you think? Do you think the web tools (Drive, Evernote, Bubbl, etc.) are helpful to you? Do you think they will be helpful throughout high school or even college? Explain.

This class is one of the most fun classes I am taking this semester.  It has come in handy this semester already because in social studies we had to learn how to use Google Drive but i already knew how to use it.  I believe learning how to use these computers and programs are important becasue they will be what we are using in the future at work.

Do you enjoy writing? When do you enjoy it? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why do you think the ability to write is so important no matter what kind of writing it is? Give an example that you enjoyed writing or hated writing. Why?

I do not enjoy writing. This is because I don't like how long it takes when I could say it out loud. I don't really like any type of writing but if I had to choose one kind it would have to be narrative. I do think the ability to write is important because to get into college and to be successful in life, you have to know how to write. I enjoyed writing a paper about myself because I didn't have to do any research and I knew everything about myself.

What is the importance of research? Why do you need to know how to research? What have you learned in high school about researching topics and finding quality resources? Have you had a helpful teacher that has taught you to research? Explain.

Research is important because if you don't research then you will not have information and if you don't have information then you can't make a presentation. You need to know how to research because if you don't you will fail in high school and in college. I have learned not to trust Wikipedia in high school. Yes I have had a helpful teacher Mrs. McWilliams. Also Matt Boushka told me not to use it.

If I was 70 or 80 right now I would probably say something like this. Back in my day we had to work until my fingers fell off, literally off, we had to sew them back on.  Now you hooligans complain if you have to get up for the remote. Also these kids these days move way to fast their always doing their sms texting and on the video "games". When I was little we played with rocks and dirt.

Tell me about the global issue you selected. What do you already know about the issue? What are you looking forward to learning about it? Explain.

I picked the problem Border Security. The border security issue is when illegal immigrants cross over our border to the U.S. and this is a problem because it causes problems with deportation, jobs, and taxes. I'm looking forward on learning how we can solve this problem, because this will help the U.S. and it will also help us as tax payers.

Yesterday I asked your to "think differently" and push yourself to be uncommon with your PSA project using Google Slides. Why do you think I asked you to do that? What is the point? Why not just use bullets and headers? Explain.

I believe you told us to be creative because regular power points and bullets would not get peoples attention, and they would just think it's just another problem we can't solve. I also believe you told us this because you believe we can be creative.

This weekend I started out going to the BVHS soccer game where I saw my classmates William (Richard) Watkins and Jay Karner <3. the Blue valley tigers lost 3-0, but the tigers won the competition to see who could raise the most money for ALS.  Saturday morning my family and I went to the lake, and it rained the two days we were there. We stayed until Sunday night and that night I had to do all the homework I got because I missed Friday at school.

Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

I agree completely with this post. Mostly because I believe people should go on with their whole life feeling sorry for themselves I think they need to grow a backbone and standup for themselves. I also believe they should get offended when one person says something.

What is a Public Service Announcement? If you don't know what it is, Google it. In your own words, now tell me what it is? What are they used for? Can you recall an example of a PSA you've seen before?

A public service announcement is a message to the public that is intended to protect or try to convince the public to do doing something harmful to themselves. They can also be trying to protect us from getting in legal trouble also.

After watching the short clip of Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech what did you take away from his advice? What does this quote mean to you -"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use."

Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech meant don't do whats normal, go out and be yourself.  It also meant that people who created the world and made it what it is today were normal people that just went off by themselves and created a new way of living. This shows that you don't have to be famous to go off on your own and create a new style of living. The main points of his speech was don't follow, be yourself.
